Of course there are always things we can't control but the things we do have control of - what we choose to eat, wear and use, we should always choose the options that don't directly participate in harming other animals.

Why do you think vegans aren't "trying to question the ways of society in order to solve the problem and get to its roots"? That's exactly what we're doing :) We're boycotting products of violence and educating others about veganism to get to the root of the problem (animal use).

Hope I've answered your question :)Emmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14874825473404247721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-70017474190563531942013-05-06T18:08:16.668+12:002013-05-06T18:08:16.668+12:00Hi Emmy.

I curious about vegans. reading a post (http://vegan-times.com/tag/speciesists-say-the-darndest-things/) you made about Speciesists on another blog I was directed to your website. I believe that eating meat and the domestication of animals are both inherently unnecessary and out dated method/system of eating.
I believe generally violence is unintelligent and I find repulsive. On the matter of violence. I question the reasons for why you started to go vegan. Your response to your trip to the goat farm is understandble and many would do the same. This is a typical result of a society where people are not involved enough with farming to have the hands on and insight observation experience. Thus we become num/unaware to the actually farming process. However on a side note you could say that is wrong as people are even more exposed to violence in todays digital age and thus would not be surprised to such violence. Any way due to the many sensory influences of seeing by hand animals slaughtered must be quite a vividly intense experience. Anyway most of that is obviously. The question I have, is your view on this violence confined to the empathy of domestic animals only or to organics and natural systems? I ask because I question Vegans and their methods. You could conceptually be compared to Christians/Charity and how they give money to the poor in order to help them yet only to do little to improve the overall system of society. Instead trying to question the ways of society in order to solve the problem and get to its roots, they instead just make them selves feel better and think they made a contribution worth while. When really they solved nothing. What i am trying to say is your vegan movement must look beyond and go to the root of the problem. You should not be disgusted (although I understand) about domesticated animals being killed and eaten. You should be disgusted that we still eat meat. Which originally (long time ago) humans naturaly became carnivorous for the need to survive after our resources ( were damaged ) and generally from evolution and natural selection. This habit and act was continued to present day. This should be investigated and developed. We have the technology. Its just a matter of seeing their is to be change and the current method and science of eating (animals) for protein is outdated.Chris D.McMorranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06171366848275024314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-90380212223033876212013-01-24T20:15:11.896+13:002013-01-24T20:15:11.896+13:00Hi, Emmy.

Because I think "torture" is not the point, but the point is slavery. Torture means inflincting deliberate pain and suffering. That´s not the objective of animal exploitation. The objective is to satisfy needs (eating) or obtaining benefits (money).

Besides, I´ve seen many people are confused about this issue because when we talk about "torture" they think the problem is only cruelty about using nonhumans, not the use itself.

Thanks!Luis Tovarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09961032806885493005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-78990557603637712452013-01-19T12:29:22.546+13:002013-01-19T12:29:22.546+13:00Hi Tanja,
Thank you for your comment :)
SAFE may...Hi Tanja,

Thank you for your comment :)

SAFE may not be directly saying to everyone "Buy Free Range", but that's the message their "Stop Factory Farming" campaigns are sending to the public. After their battery eggs protest, I went onto both One News' and 3 News' facebook posts about the protest - and the majority of people who responded were saying "I'm only going to buy free range eggs now!" or "I'm so glad I only buy free range eggs!". There were none, as far as I could see, who said "This is horrible, I'm going to go vegan now!"
I've also met people in person who feel proud of themselves for buying free range animal products, because they think they're doing their part to help animals - and that's because of SAFE's campaigns.

So they are sending a confused message to the public about how they can help animals. They often get the chance to be on tv and I wish they would use that opportunity to promote veganism. But again, usually they only promote "free range" by telling people not to buy factory farmed animal products. And the one time I did see them mention veganism, they made it sound like buying free range and being vegan are basically the same thing; no matter whether you choose free range animal products or no animal products, you're still helping animals. I guess they don't want to upset their non-vegan donors?

I believe being vegan is the *least* we can do for nonhuman animals, and that is why I promote veganism and nothing less. It's what we owe to the animals. I hope that one day SAFE will have a great big "Go Vegan" campaign. One that clearly advocates for *Veganism*, no "veg" or "vegetarian". That would be a campaign I could get behind!

Kind Regards,
EmmyEmmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14874825473404247721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-36673243588891727332013-01-04T05:40:35.760+13:002013-01-04T05:40:35.760+13:00Hi Emmy,

That's what I like about SAFE and why I've been supporting SAFE wholeheartedly for the past ten years: they are firmly an animal rights organisation, not an animal welfare organisation. SAFE is managing to mainstream animal rights without ever compromising the baseline, which is SAFE's vegan and animal rights philosophy.

Best wishes and keep up the good work,
TanjaJantahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03575106241965341083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-50251421696998487212013-01-03T07:18:31.612+13:002013-01-03T07:18:31.612+13:00Good job Emmy :) Good job Emmy :) LiveVeganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00671123990659252776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4431974716782784030.post-14394759006665730812013-01-03T04:25:07.758+13:002013-01-03T04:25:07.758+13:00I'll certainly be using these!
